For example: the first female head writer at SNL, Emmy Award winner, Writers Guild award winner and recipient of the Kennedy Center Annual Mark Twain Prize for American humor. It's just a great read from a mature thinker.įey's stories from The Second City comedy theater in Chicago, Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock make it abundantly clear that she is adept at negotiating any and all obstacles in the workplace. It's honest and intimate, without any maudlin tales of childhood sorrow, no extraneous snark or hit-and-run tell-all gossip. Now that we are well into the oughts and their careers have taken off, while I spend more time NyQuil napping and loitering in bookstores, things feel more just - somehow corrected.īossypants is not so much a memoir as it is a sort of here's-what-happened-and-why-I think-this kind of book. And I could only assume they were as perplexed by my success as I was. They were always so much funnier, and so much younger, than me. Especially when I knew Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. And I was frequently ashamed of that fact. Career wise things were going very well for me. Switching gears for a second: I'd like to reach back to the turn of the century, specifically the 1990s. Not just a trite expression in this case it is literally true. I guess, as they say, I couldn't put it down. I received Tina Fey's new book, Bossypants, last Friday and read it straight through until 7:40 Saturday morning.

Bossypants book review

She finds love with Ben Birnbaum, a handsome boy on the plane and soon she's caught in the unstable, ever-changing world of Beverly Hills. She's supposed to be there to complete an internship, but she wants to remake herself as a new wild party girl. When high class, well-bred Anna Percy goes to live with her father in Beverly Hills, she feels like she has stepped into a whole new, strange world. Ill be sure to look into the other books in this series I would definitely recommend to fans of the It Girl, Gossip Girl, Clique, and Pretty Little Liars series, put together, they would all make one happy little family. Lucky for me, I dont, or I would have missed out on a really good book. The A-List: A Novel wasnt the first book Id picked from the shelf, if I judged a book by its cover. None of your questions go unanswered, well at least not until you finish the book that is. You really get an understanding of whats going on and you feel yourself becoming one with the book. Zoey Dean really gives you an insight on whats going on in the book and its characters, as she jumps from one character to the next. She thought all she had to worry about was the A-List, Cammie, Sam, and Dee, the it girls but when a night with Ben goes wrong, Anna has a change or heart. With no less than twenty four hours spent in LA, Anna has done a lot more than she got herself ready for, as she suddenly finds her life being entangled with Ben, his friends, and most importantly, the A-List. With no time to waste, Anna and Ben quickly become acquaintances, such good ones that Ben feels entitled to invite her to Jackson Sharpes wedding, and an invite Anna could only accept. Shes been hit on by her obnoxious seatmate, downed more vodka than ever, and even been saved by prince charming, better yet, Princeton Hottie, Ben Birbaum. When her mom and sister leave her stranded in New York, she seizes the opportunity as a sign, packs up her bags, and flies over to LA to pay her dad a long awaited visit.īefore her plane lands in LA, shes gotten more action than she ever has in her lifetime. After twelve good years of being the audience, Anna Percy decides that shes over due for a change. Shes been the one to sit in the background and watch while best friend, Cynthia Baltres, has had all the fun. Anna Percy has always been the good girl.
